Bio-Medical Equipment Electrical Safety Level 3

This course covers introductions to and the Principles of Patient Safety Testing of Bio-medical Equipment.

Who Should Attend:

This course is aimed at staff who are involved in the Safety Testing of Electrical Equipment and require training or an update refresher.

Pre-requisites:

The pre-requisites of the courses are that learners have a sound knowledge of Electronic Engineering either an HNC or equivalent qualification, or equivalent work experience, as the Level 3 courses are both practical and theory based. Minimum age for entry onto the course is 19 years old.

Course Aim:

To provide learners with the basic knowledge and practical experience needed in order to be able to carry out Electrical Safety Testing across a variety of biomedical equipment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, MHRA Guidance, IEC Standards and relevant manufacturers’ manuals.

Course Objectives:

On conclusion of the course the learners will be able to:

  • Describe and explain the physiological effects of electricity on the body.
  • List the relevant legislation, standards and guidance relating to biomedical equipment electrical safety.
  • Describe and explain biomedical equipment classification and type.
  • Describe and explain biomedical equipment electrical safety protocols.
  • Carry out electrical safety testing across a variety of different biomedical equipment in accordance with relevant legislation, standards and manufacturers information.

Accreditation:

On successful completion of the course learners will gain an Open College Network West Midlands Level 3 award in Bio-Medical Equipment Electrical Safety Testing.

What Next?

Learners should consider enrolling on the 10-day Medical Equipment Technologies course or one of our 3-day equipment specific programmes to provide further focus on particular medical equipment.

Learners should also consider enrolling on the Level 5 Diploma in Medical Equipment Technologies.

  2. When you have received your Course Application Form please follow these steps:

    Fill in ALL sections of the form – these need to be completed in full to process your application and register you on the course.

    1. Please add all course costs including accommodation if requested.

    2. Booking forms must be filled in for all courses per person, even if several require spaces for the same course.

    3. When your application form is complete and has been authorised by your employer/provider please return either by email or post to: training@avensysmedical.co.uk

    4. As per application form instructions, please send your purchase order to Avensys UK Training Ltd within seven days of receipt of your application form. Please use code TR when raising a purchase order followed by your order number e.g. TR123456. This then needs to be sent by post to the address above and/or emailed to accounts@avensysmedical.co.uk and copy in training@avensysmedical.co.uk

    5. Once your purchase order is received the course booking processes (catering, hotel, course documents etc.) will commence. Our accounts department will then issue an invoice for your purchase order.

    6. Payment for courses needs to be received two weeks before the course start date to confirm hotel accommodation, catering and course placement. Entry to the course will not be permitted on the course unless payment is received within the Terms & Conditions.

  3. Course Start and Finish Times
    The course starts at 9 am sharp and candidates generally arrive 10-15 mins beforehand for refreshments and registration. The course days typically finish at 5.00pm.

    Essentials for Arrival
    – Please bring with you a form of photographic ID, this is for registration and verification procedures for the awarding body.

    – You will need to sign in upon arrival with the Training Centre Coordinator.

    – You will also be asked to sign against your authorisation to take photographs for training purposes. The information is detailed in the pack you receive upon arrival.

    Lunch Arrangements
    Lunch will be provided on site at the Training Academy. There are refreshment facilities in the dining area; these are all included in the course cost. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.

    Mobile Phones
    For the duration of the lessons, mobile phones should remain switched off; they can be used during break times only.

    Smoking
    A no-smoking policy is operated inside all Avensys UK Training Ltd and Avensys UK Ltd premises, however, there are areas outside where learners are permitted to smoke during breaks.

    Dress Code
    There is no formal dress code – shoes and clothing should be suitable and appropriate for a classroom and practical environment.

    Accessibility
    You will be required to move throughout the building, including up and down stairs. Please let us know if this will be a problem for you.

    Car Parking
    There is limited parking available at the Training Academy although street parking is available on the surrounding roads.

  4. Travelling
    Our dedicated modern training facility for engineering technicians, clinicians and nursing staff, has up to date equipment and is centrally located in the Midlands within easy access to motorways and all network links.

    By road
    From the M5 North
    Leave the M5 motorway at junction 3, taking the A456 exit to Kidderminster. Continue to follow the A456 (Kidderminster) for approximately 7 miles. After passing through Hagley take the slight left on to the A450 Worcester Road. At the second roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A442 Droitwich Road. At the traffic lights turn right onto the A449 Worcester Road. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Frederick Road. Avensys Training Academy is located approximately 200m on the left.

    From the M5 South
    Leave the motorway at Junction 6 and take the second exit at the roundabout onto the A449 towards Kidderminster. Remain on the A449 for 12 miles over 3 roundabouts. At fourth roundabout take the 1st exit onto Frederick Road. Avensys Training Academy is located approximately 200m on the left.

    By air
    Birmingham Airport is around 30 miles from Kidderminster and about 45 minutes from Avensys UK Ltd.

    By rail
    Kidderminster railway station is about 2 miles away from Avensys UK Training Ltd and is served by London Midland trains. Taxis are available at the station.

    Apprenticeships
    The Avensys Apprenticeship courses are the perfect start to a career in Clinical Engineering and career progression.They provide opportunities for those already working in the industry to gain formal qualifications for roles they currently hold, adapting existing skills and knowledge to develop new skills.

    We offer the Level 2 Healthcare Science Apprenticeship, Level 3 Medical Engineering Apprenticeship and the Level 4 Healthcare Science Apprenticeship.
