Level 3 Medical Engineering Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship Pre-requisites

As with all apprenticeships, this programme is a Work Based Learning qualification and therefore you will need to be employed in a Medical Engineering department. If you are not in this type of role, it may be worth contacting the Medical Engineering Department at your local hospital to see if they are taking on any apprentices.

The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Medical Engineering 

The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Medical Engineering has been specifically written for the Medical Engineering sector. The qualification provides individuals with essential knowledge and practical skills to fulfil a Medical and Clinical Engineering role.

The Apprenticeship lasts a minimum of 24 months and will provide an excellent insight to all aspects of medical engineering. The Apprentice will learn fundamental techniques to fault find, service and maintain medical equipment.

The Apprenticeship also provides opportunities for those already working in the Medical Equipment Technology sector to gain formal qualifications for roles they currently hold, enhancing existing skills and knowledge in engineering to develop new technical and professional skills in the medical equipment technologies industry. The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Medical Engineering is the perfect start to a career in medical engineering.

Objectives of the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Medical Engineering

  • Provide individuals with the essential skills, knowledge and experience needed to undertake medical or clinical engineering role.
  • Provide individuals with an opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and experience needed to progress to higher level roles within the organisation.
  • Build a competent medical and clinical engineering workforce for the future.
  • Recognise the skills and talent of a diverse population by providing them with a flexible entry route into a career within management.
  • Prepare Apprentices for further qualifications within the medical engineering sector

To be successful, the Apprentices knowledge and skills will need to be assessed in the workplace. It is a requirement that assessment of these qualifications is conducted in English.

What is Included in the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Medical Engineering?

The main qualifications incorporated with the Medical Engineering Apprenticeship are the Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Servicing Medical Equipment and the Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance. The units within the qualifications are listed below:

As with all Apprenticeships within England and Wales, to complete the Apprenticeship the Apprentice must also hold/obtain numeracy and literacy qualification and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills Qualification.
