Medical Equipment Technologies Level 3
This course covers Introductions to, the Principles of and Practical Equipment aspects of the following:
- Biomedical Equipment Electrical Safety including: the Principles of Patient Safety and Electrical Safety Testing
- Cardiovascular Equipment including: ECG monitoring and diagnostics; Defibrillation, Pacemakers, Pulse Oximetry and Blood Pressure monitoring
- Physiological monitoring and Infusion Equipment including: Patient monitoring, Foetal monitoring, Apnoea monitoring and Infusion devices
- Operating Theatre and Surgical Equipment including: Surgical Diathermy, Operating tables, Gas monitoring and Endoscopy
- Medical Therapeutic Equipment including: Nerve & Muscle Stimulators, Therapeutic Ultrasound, lnterferential Therapy and Shortwave Diathermy
Who Should Attend:
Learners with a good understanding of biomedical equipment principles, applications and maintenance procedures.
Pre-requisites:
Learners must have completed our Level 3 Electrical Safety Testing course or have proof of electrical safety testing competence. The minimum age for entry onto the course is 18 years old.
Course Aim:
To provide learners with the base knowledge and practical experience needed in order to be able carry out inspection, servicing and repairs of a number of different types of Biomedical equipment in accordance with MHRA guidance, IEC Standards, relevant manufacturers information and the National Occupational Standards for Servicing Biomedical Equipment.
Course Objectives:
On conclusion of the course the learners will be able to:
- Describe and explain the physiological effects of electricity on the body, electrical safety testing protocols and current legislation requirements for biomedical engineering
- Describe the techniques used for a range of biomedical monitoring, therapeutic and operating equipment
- Describe the engineering and functional operation of a variety of biomedical equipment including cardiovascular, physiological monitoring, infusion, operating, surgical and therapeutic equipment
- Carry out inspection, testing, fault finding and servicing of a range of biomedical equipment in accordance with the relevant legislation, standards and manufacturers information
Qualification:
On successful completion of the course, learners will gain a Level 3 Certificate in Medical Equipment Technologies.
