Periodic testing of Benchtop Sterilisers
Learners will learn to use and perform Periodic tests on Benchtop Sterilisers (Transportable Vacuum Steam Sterilisers). They will also learn the underpinning knowledge to enable them to carry out these tests and understand their importance and the theory behind them.
Who Should Attend:
Persons involved with the testing and maintenance of benchtop sterilisers. Laboratory staff involved with the sterilisation of instruments and laboratory equipment.
Pre-requisites:
Experience as a decontamination engineer/technician is required to attend this course.
Course Aim:
The aim of this course is to train learners to perform validation of Washer-Disinfectors and produce reports that are acceptable to Health Technical Memorandum 01-01/01-05.
Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course the learners will be able to:
- Explain the role of sterilisation within the decontamination process.
- Describe microbiology terms and definitions most commonly referred to in decontamination.
- Identify risks associated with steam sterilisers.
- Describe and explain the basic properties of steam.
- Summarise the principles of operation of a Type N,S,B steriliser.
- Carry out Daily and Weekly tests on different types of sterilisers.
- Updating Logbooks and Steriliser records.
Certification & Digital Credential
On successful completion of the course, learners will receive a City & Guilds certificate.
They will also receive a City & Guilds digital credential which proves that the learner attended and completed the course.
