Weekly testing of Benchtop Steam Sterilisers
This course teaches learners how to use Benchtop Sterilisers and perform Daily and Weekly tests on them, along with the underpinning knowledge to enable them to carry out these tests and understand their importance and the theory behind them.
Who Should Attend:
Anyone who operates or has involvement with Benchtop Sterilisers. Suitable for dental practice staff involved with Sterilisation, and laboratory staff involved with Sterilisation of equipment and the operation and use of daily and weekly testing.
Pre-requisites:
We advise that learners complete our Fundamentals of Decontamination within an SSD environment course prior to this course. The minimum age for entry onto the course is 16 years old.
Course Aim:
The aim of this course is to train learners to perform daily and weekly tests as set out in the Health Technical Memorandum 01-01/01-05
Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course the learners will be able to:
- Explain the role of sterilisation within the decontamination process.
- Describe microbiology terms and definitions most commonly referred to in decontamination.
- Identify risks associated with steam sterilisers.
- Describe and explain the basic properties of steam.
- Summarise the principles of operation of a Type N,S,B steriliser.
- Carry out Daily and Weekly tests on different types of Steriliser.
- Updating Logbooks and Steriliser records.
Certification & Digital Credential
On successful completion of the course, learners will receive a City & Guilds certificate.
They will also receive a City & Guilds digital credential which proves that the learner attended and completed the course.
